Door Glass Replacement Services

Most door glasses are made of tempered glass which is designed to shatter under a significant impact, but a transition is taking place on many new vehicles to where door glasses are now made with a laminated design much like the glass used on windshields. The laminated glass interacts with side curtain air bags to protect occupants in a side collision. When this happens, it is time for a door glass replacement by Liberty AutoGlass.

It needs to be noted that these laminated door glasses will not break like tempered glass if you are trying to gain access to the inside of the vehicle, or to escape from the inside during an emergency.

In order to replace the door glass, the door panel needs to be removed, all of the broken glass removed from inside the door. The glass is installed in place of the old glass by inserting it onto the track and attaching it to the window regulator (the mechanism that raises and lowers the glass). In some instances the window regulator can be damaged when a door glass is broken and also needs to be replaced.

Depending on the vehicle, this job can take up to 1 ½ hours to complete. After the door glass is replaced, its proper operation is tested and if the window has an auto up feature, the anti-pinch safety feature is tested to assure safe operation. There is no safe drive away time when you are replacing a door glass; the vehicle can be used immediately.
